So I found my lost notebook eventually. As I expected, I found it when I wasn't looking for it. How many times has this happened to you?
It connects so well with the creative process. It's often the case that the harder you make yourself think, look for solutions or try to create something new, the harder it becomes. It's a really useful technique for idea generation and problem solving. Take yourself completely away from the task in hand. Take time out. Take an 'excursion.' Give your business brain a rest and visit an art gallery, listen to music, take a walk, get in the bath... I find cleaning my teeth, gardening and sitting on the train are the most productive spaces for me to generate ideas or find answers.
